Contracting in the Heat
I sure do long for a summer like the one when I was pregnant with Kira. THis one is H-O-T! It has been above 100 degrees for the past 7 days and is not supposed to go down for several more days. In fact, it was 107 today, 108 tomorrow, and will be 110 on Friday! Just going outside from my house to my car sets off a whirlwind of contractions. At first, I wasn't worried since they were irregular and obviously set off by the heat. Last night, however, as temperatures never went below 85 degrees INSIDE the house they became more regular and not very comfortable. I downed a couple quarts of water on my way home from Grandma's house, where Kira spent the evening while I taught a class. Jeremy's mom said she would stay on standby in case things got worse. Luckily, the water and rest last night helped...but I was up ALL NIGHT in the bathroom after all that water.
My doctor told me that if this keeps up, I need to come in for a fetal fibrinetin (a test to determine the risk of preterm birth), but otherwise rest and stay out of the heat. So, after a short 4 hour stint at work this morning, I have been horizontal. Luckily, Kira cooperates by playing with her blocks or resting with me while we read books or watch videos. The contractions have been sporadic today...but I decided to tsay home from work tomorrow and pick up an extra shift on Friday instead.
