This little piggy...

Excuse any typos, but i am typing one handed today...

Last Friday, I took Alayna up to work to weigh her. I knew she was getting much bigger, but i was curious how much. I was prepared for a gain, but not for a TWO pound gain! I actually weighed her 3 times to make sure the scale was right! Sure enough, she was 10 pounds 13 ounces! Only 2 weeks before, she was 9 pounds! I think the average gain at this stage is supposed to be 5 ounces a week. I think we have that covered!

Neh, Heh, Eh, Eair, Owh

Those are the words babies "say" according to a guest on Oprah last week. (I watch a lot of TV on DVR while I am nursing at night!) It was actually quite facinating, and so far I have been able to pick out a few of these in Alayna. The "EH" means "I need to burp" and is very obvious in her, as is "NEH" or "I am hungry." The others are more difficult to hear, but if you listen closely and tune out the screech that is typical of Alayna, then you can almost figure them out. Interesting, and much easier to respond to her cues!
Here is more about this:

Diapers on my head

At first Kira pretty much just ignored little sister Alayna. But now, she wants to try and "help" with her. Help to Kira means trying to shove the paci into her mouth (or nose, or ear...whatever she can reach first), bringing her toys, taking the blanket OFF of her, laying hats over her head (or face!), and, of course, patting her head while she is trying to eat.
The funniest, though, was the other night. I was busy typing her last journal entry, and Alayna was swinging peacefully in her swing. Kira was running back and forth from the bedroom to the living room. I was not really paying attention until I heard the swing motor trying to work against something. That something, of course, was Kira. She had to stand in front of the swing to "help" Alayna with her diaper. Not that she even needed changing. And not that the diaper change she got from Kira was very effective. When I peeked around the corner, there was Alayna with about 10 diapers on her...on her legs, her arms, her tummy, and the final touch was one open across her head! It was a hilarious site and Alayna slept through it all! Kira pointed at her and said "uh-oh, baby needs diter poopoo" or in English...baby needs a diaper change, she has poopoo in her diaper.
I have since found Alayna swinging away with Kira's "friends" the stuffed animals, her "babies," and lots and lots of her pacis and hats. Very interesting and amusing!

Hungry Hungry Hungry

Alyna was awake from 9am to 5pm today. Of course, I have only myself to blame as I was complaining about her not sleeping at night and sleeping too much during the day. What was worse, though, is that she has been nursing ONCE AN HOUR all day long. I feel like I have run a marathon. And it didn't help that big sister was a little more needy than usual today. I am sure hoping this is a growth spurt and not a trend...
