so aware

Just the past week or so, you have become so aware! Lots of gaga, goo, phtr babbles, too! You smile at Daddy, Mommy, Kira and the mobile on your swing. You really like jumpy-jump and baby massage and yoga. As much as I hate to see the tiny baby go, this new one is so much fun!

Got milk?

I guess mommy won't be having any milk for a while. After spending several weeks with an extremely fussy (in the evenings) baby, I decided I had to take action. You were so gassy and curled up like you were hurting. I could hardly stand to see the clock move forward to 6pm, because I knew you were in distress.
We thought that onions were the culprit, since your sister didn't like those much, but cutting out onions didn't seem to relieve your distress. So, I researched and found that (of all things) dairy was the most likely culprit. Now, if you have ever actually payed attention to how much dairy you eat, you will know that it sneaks into most everything. And I am a HUGE fan of dairy. I drink a tall glass of milk in the morning and at night. I have cheese with every meal and sometimes for a snack...and ice cream is my favorite dessert. Not to mention the mac n cheese, cream sauces, coffee creamer...UGH!
I stopped the dairy completely for 7 days. And I have to say I was hoping it wouldn't work. I really miss the milk. But, it helped considerably. I was then told to try and add it back in slowly, starting with hard cheese. You did fine with that. But, when I tried to add in the glasses of milk...disaster! So, we are back to square one. I have to cut it all out again. And in another week I can try cheese...but this time no milk for a month!
But, you are worth giving up the milk. For all the nighttime smiles, it will be worth it.

Sling Baby

Alayna loves to be held...or should I say she hates to be alone! So, out of neccessity, I have learned how to use a multitude of baby carriers. We started with the traditional Baby Bjorn, but I have trouble seeing over her to get anything done. It is nice for walks, but that is about it. So, I went to a babywearing class last weekend and learned the ropes of the classic carriers from around the world. I now am a pouch sling expert! This is what a pouch sling looks like: http://www.hotslings.com/s.nl/it.I/id.7/.f in case you are curious. Everyone is fascinated when I wear it and wants to know all about it! We also have a ring sling that we have learned to use, although she doesn't like it as much and it is not as portable (bulky to pack). This is a ring sling:

It sure would be lovely to get one for Christmas, although, no one really knows I want one, so I will probably have to get it for myself (too bad I don't have time to sew!)...here is what a mei tai looks like: http://www.kozycarrier.homestead.com/
So, you can see...much more portable than that huge stroller and cozy, too!
