A Trip to the ER

Scary for any parent, but I think probably worse since I know what RSV can do! We had thought she was just coming down with a normal cold. She didn't have a fever, but began coughing last Friday. Nothing major, and no runny nose, either. Then, on Saturday, she began wheezing. It was mild, and her respirations, while fast, were still within normal limits. So, I kept watching her. She got so much better when she fell asleep that night, that I thought the worst was over. I was wrong. I went to wake her up Sunday morning and she began to cough. The cough turned to a wheeze and it all went downhill from there. SHe began to really fight to breathe and her chest was retracting. Her nose was flaring and her fingernails were turning a little dusky. I started to count her respirations, but they were so fast that I gave up. We grabbed the diaper bag (and big sister) and headed straight for the ER.
Within a few minutes of arrival, she was already getting a breathing treatment. Since it didn't seem to help much, she needed another one almost right away. And chest x-rays, two nasal swabs and of course...the dreaded IV. It was horrible. I won't say how many tries it took to put her IV in or how long it took. THe worst part was that she looked right in my eyes while it was going on and screamed. I was devastated. I tried not to be the sobbing parent, but it was too hard. Jeremy offered to trade me, but by then I was not about to leave her. :( Of course, one the IV was in her fat little foot, she relaxed right away and we got a good snuggle in before we headed to our room.
I never thought we would have to spend the night, so Jeremy had to go home and pack bags for me and for Kira, who went to stay with Grandma for the night. I ended up with everything I needed, though!
The rest of the stay went well. It was so nice to not have to do anything but hold my baby all night and day. But, I really missed my other baby and I wish Alayna hadn't been so sick.
We are home now, on a home breathing treatment and oral meds. And not able to go much of anyplace with a contagious kid. And I am glad to be home!

6 months

I know, I know. She is not even 3 months old yet. But that doesn't stop her from needing 6 month clothes! Yikes! She totally bipassed the 3 month size and headed right for the big girl stuff. I will say, though, that clothing that says "6 month" is actually designed for babies 3-6 month or "up to" 6 month. But, still! For my little girl to be in something that has "6 month" on it is so sad! Even more sad for my budget. I don't have but a couple outfits that fit her now that are winter appropriate! Lots of short sleeves, but it's not time for that yet. Normally I'd be excited to go shopping, but not until I'm getting a paycheck!
